Sofitel Lafayette Square
Washington, DC, United States
Style: Classic Luxury. Built: 2002. Rooms: 237. Suites: 16.
Housed in a completely refurbished and updated historic landmark building, Sofitel Lafayette Square, Washington D.C. offers a unique blend of classic with contemporary. The hotel stands proudly on the corner of Washington, D.C.'s genteel Lafayette Square, which borders the White House. This park has not only strong historical credentials but also a number of links to France and was named for the French Marquis de Lafayette, who fought for the Colonies and commanded American troops during the Revolutionary War. Landmarks such as the National Theatre, the Smithsonian Institution and the new Convention Center are just a few minutes walk away. Sofitel Lafayette Square's unique interpretation of luxury, the French "Art de Vivre," is a blend of tradition and innovation that builds on the French reputation for architecture, interior design and cuisine. The hotel embraces this philosopy by surrounding guests in luxurious comfort, style, sophistication and a level of personal attention that cannot only be seen, but also felt.
The hotel features 237 guestrooms including 17 suites, all tastefully designed by the renowned French designer, Pierre-Yves Rochon. There is no better example of Rochon's handiwork than the hotel's high-ceilinged lobby, which has been restored in a way that preserves the historic authenticity of its original 1920s construction. With its pale beige marble walls and beige-and-black marble flooring, rich moldings and gold leaf accents that draw upon the beige tones of the ceiling, and large bronze chandelier with cut frosted glass, the lobby exudes luxury. The courteous multilingual staff's attention to detail ensures that guests enjoy a gracious and hospitable stay in an elegant, urban retreat. Experience a new level of service and attention to detail that can only be defined as Sofitel Lafayette Square.

Fine Dining on Site
For a truly memorable dining experience, the hotel offers Cafe 15. Voted one of "the world's top 10 great new restaurants" by Travel and Leisure Magazine (May 2003), Cafe 15 serves a menu that is a contemporary interpretation of French haute cuisine. The menu has been inspired by consulting Michelin three-star chef Antoine Westermann and brilliantly carried out by Executive Chef Philippe Piel. Featuring epicurean fare inspired by French cuisine and infused with international flavors, the 60-seat restaurant showcases Westermann's daring touch in dishes such as Terrine of Homemade Duck Foie Gras with fig marmalade, Port wine aspic and country bread; and Maine Lobster with ginger flavored onion ravioli and kaffir lime sauce. Designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon, Cafe 15 is an elegant room with a comfortable beige decor, offset by lavender green accents. Seats are upholstered in rich purple velour, coordinated with the window treatments. Le Bar, situated adjacent to the hotel's opulent lobby, has become popular as a stylish gathering place to relax over afternoon coffee and pastries as well as a cocktail after work. It is also an ideal spot for joining friends or business associates for lunch or a light dinner- and especially during the spring and summer months, when a chic outdoor terrace opens along 15th Street.
