To find answers, Dimitri travels to Gabon, West Africa, to consult with Bwiti shamans, and puts himself through a punishing Iboga initiation. Movie:Plastic Plane Release Date: January 14, 2011 (NY) Studio: First Run Features Director: Werner Boote Screenwriter: Werner Boote Starring: Not Available Genre: Documentary MPAA Rating: Not Available Official Website: Not Available
Sort Summary: Opens at Cinema Village in New York on January 14, 2011 Director Werner Boote is Available for Interviews We live in the age of plastic. It’s cheap and practical, and it’s everywhere – even in our blood. But is it a danger to us? The plastic industry annually generates hundreds of billions of dollars. Every industrial sector in the world today is dependent on plastic. The amount of plastic we have produced since it was invented would be enough to cover the entire globe six times over. But this inexpensive and convenient substance comes with a hefty price. Plastic stays in the ground and water system for up to 500 years. It is found on every beach in the world. Numerous studies have proven that the chemicals it releases (such as Bisphenol A) migrate into the human body and may contribute to or cause grave health problems, from allergies to obesity to infertility, cancer and heart disease. For Austrian German director Werner Boote, plastic is personal. His grandfather was one of the early manufacturers of plastic and he introduced Boote at a young age to the magic substance that would change the world. Many years later, after reading about the global threat posed by plastic, he decides to embark on a quest to discover the truth about this pervasive substance. Traveling to fourteen countries, he boldly and humorously confronts manufacturers, scientists, government officials and consumers to ask questions that concern all of us: Why don’t we change our consumption behavior? Why is the industry not reacting to apparent dangers? Who is held accountable for hills of garbage mounting in deserts and seas? Who wins in this game? And who loses?

Synopsis: "The Red Chapel" is the name of small experimental theater troupe from Holland that was formed by a pair of Danish performers of Korean descent. Or at least that's what the North Korean government was led to believe when they gave them permission to do a performance tour of the country; in truth, "the Red Chapel" was formed by a pair of improvisational comics (who are in fact of Korean heritage) and a radical journalist who traveled to North Korea in hopes of using subversive, satirical performances as a commentary on the nation's oppressive policies and lamentable human rights record. One of the performers happens to be handicapped, and accentuates his condition as a way of throwing those around him off track. One of the "Red Chapel" pranksters, Mads Brugger, brought along a video camera to chronicle their journey through Korea, and Det Rode Kapel (aka The Red Chapel) is a documentary that offers a glimpse of their performances and the often surprising reactions they received. The performers also add their own commentary about the tour and the North Korean officials who toured with them, who they grew to like as people even as they loathed the regime they support. The Red Chapel was an official selection at the 2009 ~Hot Docs International Film Festival.

Synopsis: The strength of one woman's faith takes her to strange and dangerous places in this drama from acclaimed French filmmaker Bruno Dumont. Celine (Julie Sokolowski), the daughter of a wealthy and respected family, is a twenty-year-old student of theology whose passion for Christianity is so strong some find it unnerving. Celine has been studying at a convent, but her single-minded devotion leads the Mother Superior to ask Celine to leave and go out into the world. As Celine strives to find herself in a world that seems to have lost its moral compass, she meets Yassine (Yassine Salime), a Muslim teenager who lives in the city. Yassine is quite taken with Celine and they strike up a friendship, but while she warily hangs out with his friends and goes to nightclubs with him, she stubbornly denies him physical affection, insisting her spiritual path is more important to her than sex. Yassine introduces Celine to his brother Nassir (Karl Sarafidis), a firmly committed Muslim, and in him Celine finds a kindred spirit -- despite the differences in their faiths, their belief is equally powerful, and they share the opinion that they live in a world that has cut itself off from God. When Nassir makes a pilgrimage to the Middle East, Celine joins him, leading her into a strange maze of violence and fear. Hadewijch (the title comes from a Christian author and visionary of the 13th Century) was an official selection at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.
