Recording artist John Mayer performs during Tiger Jam 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center April 30, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation.
John Mayer (Bauer Griffin) John Mayer won't be taking the stage at the iheartradio Music Festival or at Tony Bennett's show, and he's pushed his album release back to 2012 because of a throat condition that's apparently been giving him problems for months.
Mayer announced the news on his blog yesterday and says his health problems are due to a granuloma, which is a tumor-like nodule next to his vocal cords. Granulomas can be harmless to very serious and the singer didn't specify the severity of his condition.
He did write that he has a team of experts on his side and has been receiving the best treatment possible. "This is a temporary setback, though I’m not sure how long or short a period of time it will be," he wrote. "I’ve got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all clear."
Mayer also said his upcoming album Born and Raised is in the finishing stages, but can't be released until next year since he's not able to complete the singing on the tracks.
While he rests up and recovers, he'll "be spending time writing and composing more music and kicking an empty soup can around the West Village."
